Fashion Accessorizing Ideas
It wasn’t until the Devil Wears Prada when Stanley Tucci’s character Nigel said of designers, “what they created was greater than art because you live your life in it,” when all of the less fashion-forward, confused-by-the-runway people started to understand the culture, art and creativity behind the fashion industry.
Fashion, whether it is a priority of yours or not, is something we all take part in, or else we would be accused of indecent exposure. However, it is style that is unique to a person. Clothes can tell a lot about someone. It’s not something to judge a person’s character on, but it can give insight to a person’s career, lifestyle, comfort and personality.
Fashion is a passion and creative outlet of many but some of us may not have the knack to really master it. Though subjective and something to play with and create, people sometimes need and want help so they can feel good in their clothes, giving them that extra confidence boost. Learning to accessorize is a cheap, safer step to further climbing up the ladder of style and “chic-ness.”
There are many ways to accessorize. CoCo Chanel advised to take one accessory off before leaving the house. A legend in the fashion industry as well as pop culture, she is a person whose words of wisdom are one to follow, so keep in mind to not over do it. However, like mentioned previously, fashion is subjective.
So, the first step is to find what is most comfortable for you and your taste. Do you like jewelry? If so, do you prefer necklaces, earrings, rings or bracelets? Or do shoes put that extra pep in your step? Maybe a beautiful bag is your weakness? Or perhaps you can’t pass up a hat. Do you go crazy every time you see scarves or belts? We all have a certain accessory we love and the wonderful thing about them is that we can create so many different outfits out of the same clothes when we accessorize differently. This is something that can make our wallets very happy.
When accessorizing, consider the color of the clothes your wearing and decide what colors would match with it. Does silver or gold hardware go better? Also, try to use contrasting colors of the clothes you are wearing for items such as scarves and belts. For example, if you have a deep blue shirt, browns are great accents. Or if you have a purple shirt, grays compliment it nicely. Be creative with colors and you will get an outfit that pops!
When it comes to jewelry, if you like big earrings, don’t go all out on the necklaces, you don’t want to look like you’re cluttered. If you want another piece of statement jewelry, wear rings. Wearing too many things around your face like big earrings, a chunky necklace, a scarf and a hat looks much too busy. Instead, spread out your accessories. Try big earrings and an oversized belt or a scarf and a bunch of bracelets.
When it comes to shoes, sometimes they can make a statement all by themselves. But try to coordinate shoes to go well with jewelry. Bags or purses are best matched with shoes. The key is to make sure you tie them all in. Nothing needs to match perfectly but try to think of each piece in the same family.
